Register the paternity acknowledgment

If, at the time of the child’s birth, the parents are not married, the person recognizing himself as the child’s father must apply for paternity state registration.

For paternity state registration in a foreign country, it is necessary to apply to the consular office of that country.

If necessary, it is also possible to obtain an online duplicate of the paternity recognition certificate (including duplicates of paper certificates issued before 2021).

It is necessary to apply to the Civil Status Acts Registration Agency of the Ministry of Justice (to view the English version, use the browser's translation tool). If you are living in a foreign country, you must apply to the embassy or consular office of that country, by submitting the required documents.


Grounds for state registration of paternity recognition

  • A joint declaration by the mother (not married at the time of the child’s birth) and the person recognizing himself as the child’s father, stating that they are the child’s biological parents.
  • In cases stipulated by law, a declaration by the person recognizing himself as the child’s father, who is not married to the mother, stating that the child is biologically his.
  • A notarized act confirming a legal fact, issued in accordance with the Law "On notariat", or a relevant court decision that has entered into legal force.


Required documents

To register paternity recognition, it is necessary to submit the following documents:

  • In the case of a joint application, identity documents of the person recognizing himself as the child’s father and of the child’s mother.
  • The child’s birth registration certificate or civil registration record data, if recognition of paternity is registered after the child’s state birth registration.
  • A medical certificate confirming the mother’s pregnancy, if the application for paternity recognition is submitted before the child’s birth.
  • The identity document of the person recognizing himself as the child’s father and a document issued by a competent authority confirming the mother’s absence (death certificate, or a court decision that has entered into legal force recognizing her as legally incapable, deceased, missing, or deprived of parental rights), as well as a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) test result confirming biological paternity.
  • The consent of an adult person, if paternity recognition is carried out in respect of him or her.
  • The consent of a child who has reached the age of 10, if, as a result of recognition of paternity, it is planned to change the child’s first name or last name.
  • A notarized act confirming a legal fact or a relevant court decision that has entered into legal force, and the applicant’s identity document.


The application must include the following information:

  • The child’s last name, first name, patronymic (, father's name, before the recognition of paternity). sex, place and date of birth, as well as the date and number of the birth registration record.
  • The child’s first name, patronymic, and last name after paternity recognition, if the applicant wishes to change them.
  • Information about the child’s father: first name, patronymic, last name, place and date of birth, citizenship, place of residence, nationality (optional).
  • The child’s mother’s details, in accordance with the child’s birth registration record.
  • Details of the identity documents of the child’s parents.
  • The type and details of the document serving as the basis for recognition of paternity.


Payment amount

  • A state fee of 10,000 AMD must be paid for the recognition of paternity.
  • A state fee of 25,000 AMD is required for the recognition of paternity in a foreign country.


Delivery period and procedure

Paternity state registration is carried out on the same working day.

If you receive a certificate of paternity recognition from a territorial civil status registry office (also known as ZAGS) of a foreign country, the agency sends it by postal service to the address indicated in the application or hands it to the applicant in person within 2 working days.
