Apply for The Infertility Treatment Program
The program provides the opportunity to receive medical assistance and services using assisted reproductive technologies free of charge or with a co-payment.
To be enrolled in the program, the beneficiary can apply to the following medical organizations of their choice:
- Scientific Research Institute of Mother and Child Health Protection (Margaryan Maternity Hospital, Yerevan, Mashtots Ave., Building 22, Phone: +374 10 53 06 41).
- Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology (Republican Hospital, Yerevan, Margaryan St., Building 6/2, Phone: +374 10 34 17 74).
- "Shengavit" Medical Center (Yerevan, Manandyan St., Building 9, Phone: +374 11 56 15 61).
- "Astghik" Medical Center (Yerevan, Daniel Varujan St., Building 28/1, Phone: +374 11 66 77 88).
- "Fertility Centre" Reproductive Health Center (Yerevan, Nor Nork 2nd Ln., Moldovakan St., 41/7).
Please note that the list provided may change. Therefore, it is advisable to call in advance and confirm whether the given institution is participating in the program.
About the Program
The following services are provided within the framework of this support program:
- Diagnosis and treatment of the etiology of infertility.
- Pre-in vitro fertilization examinations for the purpose of using assisted reproductive technologies.
- Application of assisted reproductive technologies using the method of artificial insemination with husband's or donor sperm: a maximum of 6 insemination attempts during menstrual cycles.
- One attempt at in vitro fertilization, and in case of obtaining additional embryos, the freezing of 4 embryos with preservation for up to 6 months.
- Two additional transfers of thawed embryos into the uterine cavity.
Requirements
To benefit from the support program, applicants must be citizens of the Republic of Armenia or women forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh or recognized as refugees, and meet one of the following criteria:
- have had infertility for 2 years or more (in cases of absolute indication, without the 2-year limitation) and belong to the 20–35 age group,
- are 28–42 years old (inclusive) and have no children,
- have one child, a legally registered marriage, secondary infertility for 2 years or more (in cases of absolute indication, without the 2-year limitation), and belong to the 20–36 years old (inclusive) age group. Furthermore, if registered at the age of 36 and having indications for the use of assisted reproductive technologies, the woman retains the beneficiary status of the program until she reaches the age of 39,
- are citizens of the Republic of Armenia who are residents of border communities, have a registered marriage and one child, have secondary infertility for 2 years or more (in cases of absolute indication, without the 2-year limitation), and belong to the 20–35 years old (inclusive) age group,
- are parents of a son who was a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, died during or after military service related to military service, and are under 42 years old,
- are parents of a child who died while performing official duties during the military operations of the defense of the Republic of Armenia starting from September 27, 2020, or was legally recognized as missing or deceased, or later died due to an injury, mutilation, or illness acquired related to to the conflict,
If registered at the age of 35 and having indications for the use of assisted reproductive technologies, the woman retains the beneficiary status of the program until she reaches the age of 38.
Scope of Support
The mandatory examinations performed before in vitro fertilization(IVF) (in case the validity of the examinations performed during the first attempt has expired) and the second attempt at IVF are provided free of charge or with a copayment with 50% participation by the state (regardless of when the applicant was registered as a beneficiary of the program).
The program does not cover the costs of compensation for a surrogate mother, donor oocytes (egg cells), and donor sperm. The exception to this rule is for the parents of servicemen who died during the military operations of the defense of the Republic of Armenia, during or after the performance of duty, due to circumstances related to their service.
Required Documents
To benefit from the support program, it is necessary to submit the following:
- application,
- passport or ID card for both the woman and the man,
- documents confirming the applicant's status,
- for residents of border communities: a certificate from the place of residence regarding permanent residency, and a certificate from the Police State Register of Population regarding being registered at the permanent place of residence for at least 1 year. Note that the registration and permanent residence addresses of at least one of the beneficiary spouses must match the list of these border communities,
- marriage certificate,
- epicrisis (medical documents) regarding previously used examination methods and the application of assisted reproductive technologies, issued by the medical institution that provided the patient's care or by the regional women's consultation office (if the woman has been examined or received medical care for infertility prior to applying). Medical documents are not required for infertile couples being examined for the first time.
Delivery period and Procedure
The entry and queuing of applications are carried out according to the application date through the electronic healthcare system by the organization to which the beneficiary has applied.
Applications are entered only if the applicant meets the conditions of the program and submits the appropriate documents. If the documents are incomplete, the applicant is advised to also submit the missing documents.
